Katrina | 10 Years

Here it is...that day. It's been 10 years, but that sense of mourning still hasn't gone away.
There has been lots of talk from people all week saying that they wanted this day to go unnoticed, they didn't want the old feelings to resurface. I can agree with that in part...I lost my home. I have only a handful of photos left from my childhood, there are no photos left from my parent's wedding, family heirlooms and inheritance are gone. I have nothing to show my children about me before the age of 18, other than a scattered few newspaper clippings that you can find online. Why are we reliving this day? Why do we have to remember? We have to remember because it is a part of OUR history. It is the unseen, yet ever present spirit of anyone within a 100 mile radius of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We have to remember because it is a part of everyone...because it is a story of tragedy and resilience. Because it is OURS.

There is nothing that could have prepared me for what I saw.
